WHAT YOU DO MATTERS!

At ALCO, we have the privilege of doing meaningful work every day. What we do matters. Everyone needs housing. Each ALCO team member makes that happen every day. Over 6,000 families have a place to call HOME because of you. Doing your job and doing it well is what it takes.

One of the things I think is so great about ALCO employees, is that sometimes someone sees a need and they just do what needs to be done.

Sharlita Langston and Vaniti Clayborn at Pershing Park Apartments have been short on maintenance help, so they put on blue jeans and got to work turning units – not because they had to, but because they chose to. I am sure the families that moved into those apartments appreciated having a new home whether they knew who did the work to get it ready.

Not too long ago, Ricky Bowman, now at Bayberry Apartments, saw a resident in need of help. This resident was moving out. Actually, she was being set out, and she had no way to move her belongings. After work, on his own time, Ricky loaded her things into his truck and drove them across town for her. Again, not because he had to, but because he chose to.

I know many of you have done similar things and have seen co-workers make similar choices. I believe it is because what you do matters. It is important work. Completing certifications, doing work orders, cutting checks, reviewing resumes, reading reports, walking properties – all of it is important. It is important because that is what it takes to provide housing for families that need a place to call home.

The work you do is important and meaningful, so is taking care of yourself. As an ALCO employee, you have access to lots of resources including PTO, health insurance, counseling services, and a catalogue full of training opportunities. So please take the time to care for yourself and your family. A day off to relax every now and then is a great way to recharge. Or maybe taking a class to learn something new will keep you energized. Stay healthy and see the doctor when you need to.

And remember every day, What You Do Matters!
