On Tuesday, June 7, the Learning and Development, Marketing and RPM teams met to discuss ways to encourage new employees to learn the policies, processes and procedures for each job duty and task that they are responsible for completing. We collaboratively agreed that new employees should be provided a set number of hours after the first week to dedicate to learning.
As a result, a new learning initiative has been created to meet the learning needs of new employees. We are excited to introduce EESA (Every Employee Succeeds at ALCO) Time for new employees!!!
About the Initiative: EESA Time is an initiative developed by the L&D Department and PM Regional Property Managers to ensure that all new employees are provided the information needed to successfully complete their job duties.
By the end of the first 90 days, new employees should complete the core topics in their ALCO Academy learning plans related to their job roles. To ensure that all new employees are given the opportunity and resources to learn their job roles, the following expectations regarding EESA Time have been developed:
- After the first week of employment and all first week, HR-required sessions are completed, new employees will have the ability to request EESA Time to complete ALCO Academy eLearning courses. Please Note: All virtual, in-person training sessions must be completed when they are offered.
- The maximum number of hours that a new employee can request for EESA Time is three hours each week for the first 90 days of employment.
- The direct supervisor should ensure that the new employee is requesting or using their learning time each week and encourage them to use their EESA time either all at once or in increments of one hour weekly (or until the learning plan is completed).
The direct supervisor should make it a part of their weekly conversation with his/her new employee to review the new employee’s learning plan and determine which courses should be completed each week, thereby ensuring that the new employee is utilizing his/her EESA Time.
How new employees can request the use of EESA Time: New employees can discuss with their direct supervisor the days and times that he/she would like to use for EESA Time each week for the first 90 days. Or the direct supervisor may be proactive and assign EESA Time, each week, for his/her new employee.
When EESA Time is in use, the new employee can print and post the attached sign to their working desk or office to notify their team members that learning is in progress.
When will this initiative begin: This new learning initiative will take effect Monday, August 1. All new employees hired on or after August 1 will be informed of the new initiative during Day 1 of orientation.
